We aspire to be a church that is
God's agenda is a global agenda. Melbourne gathers people from all over the world, and we exist to fulfil the Great Commission: proclaiming the whole Word of God and reaching out to all.
Our beliefs come from the Bible and are set out in our church’s Statement of Faith. Here they are in summary.
God’s inspired Word, true and trustworthy, our final authority for faith and life.
2 Timothy 3:16–17One true and living God, Creator and sustainer of all, eternally Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19Fully God and fully human, born of the virgin Mary. He lived without sin, died in our place and rose again. He is the only Saviour and Lord of all.
Philippians 2:5–11We are rescued by grace through faith in Jesus, not by our own good works. Whoever turns to Him receives forgiveness and new life.
Ephesians 2:8–9He gives new birth, keeps filling and empowering believers for life and service, and gives spiritual gifts to build up the church.
Acts 1:8The body of Christ, called to worship, grow together and make disciples. We baptise believers by immersion and share the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of Him.
Matthew 28:18–20He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and make all things new. So we live and share the gospel with urgency.
Titus 2:13With Christians through the ages, we also affirm the historic creeds of the church.
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.
And we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
"Catholic" here means universal: the whole church of Jesus in every place and time.
